Hello Everyone,
NEW MOON IN GEMINI – MAY 24th, 2009
The New Moon on May 24th at 8:12 am EDT falls in the sign of Gemini.
Gemini, the first air sign, is symbolized by the archetype of “the twins” denoting the human need for communication and interaction. In astrology, Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods. The domain of Gemini is the mental realm: communication, speaking, writing, education, commerce, and travel
Since all New Moons are “seeding times”, this is a time to set your intention for communicating your ideas. It’s time to dust off those projects and proposals that have been sitting on the “back burner” since Mercury went retrograde May 6 (more on Mercury retrograde below).
Gemini is a “mercurial” or changeable sign, the chameleon of the zodiac. At this New Moon, allow yourself to be more flexible in your mental outlook. Are you feeling “stuck” or in a rut? The Gemini New Moon gives you a breath of fresh air and a chance to appreciate the humor in life.
Are you feeling the urge to branch out mentally or intellectually at this time? Perhaps learn a new language….a writing class…public speaking…..take a short trip? Conversely, are you ready to write or speak about what you know….or preparing to “sell” a new business plan?
Often a sibling will occupy much of your thoughts or time during a Gemini New Moon. If you have sibling (or even a close friend) that you have not communicated with in a while, this is the time to do so.
Mercury Retrograde finally turns direct on May 30th since its retrograde motion began on May 6th. The good news is that the past month of mixed messages, confused travel plans, false promises, technological snafus, and skewed messages is finally over. If you are involved in writing, sales or travel professionally, things should pick up greatly after June 1st.
MAJOR CONFIGURATION OF JUPITER, CHIRON AND NEPTUNE IN AQUARIUS:
This New Moon in Gemini on May 24th at 8:12am EDT coincides with a rare triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune. Jupiter and Neptune conjoin every 12-13 years; Jupiter and Chiron every 13-20 years; and Chiron and Neptune every 57-80 years. Many astrologers feel that this triple conjunction at 26 degrees Aquarius qualifies as one of the “entry markers” into the Aquarian age. We are in a period timing of the exact conjunction), this is a period of incredible reform and massive change. The last time these three planetary bodies were in such close conjunction was in September 1945, just weeks after the end of WWII when an era of rebuilding and restructuring was the order of the day. Prior to that, the last triple conjunction was in the sign of Taurus in 1881, as the rise of capitalism and the modern industrial revolution began, shifting the wealth from farming to goods and services.
We can see how these themes are being brought forward in the collective psyche once again, not to “reinvent” the wheel, but to build better a better road.
Jupiter, the planet of expansive philosophy, politics, and religious thought is a major cosmic player right now. The combination of Jupiter and Neptune is both inspirational and boundless transcending space, time and matter (Saturn’s domain). Jupiter and Neptune together symbolize mystical journeys, the shamanic “vision quest”. This planetary pairing is about “following your bliss” as Joseph Campbell so aptly describes it (he had a natal Jupiter/Neptune aspect in his own birth chart, which enabled him to profoundly explore the vast territory of world mythologies). Interestingly, both Carl Jung and Edgar Cayce also had Jupiter/Neptune aspects in their respective natal charts, and both “pushed the envelope” on healing, psychology, astrology, mysticism, and world mythologies. One, as a psychological pioneer and the other as a psychic healer, they both shared the ability to navigate the unconscious (Neptune) and inspire others with their vision (Jupiter).
Much of what is considered to be the “New Age” movement is characterized by the reappearance of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron together. Chiron (first sighted in the 1977) is the asteroid named after the Greek centaur, which is called “the wounded healer” in ancient Greek mythology. Chiron taught astrology, healing, and shamanism to the young gods of Mount Olympus. At this time, the asteroid Chiron amplifies quantum leaps in alternative medicine, energy healing and spiritual technologies, such as astrology, homeopathy, reiki and cellular rejuvenation.
Neptune is the planet that increases our spiritual awareness, attunes us to our divinity through nature and the arts, and helps to bridge the schism between science and religion.
The planetary trinity of Neptune, Jupiter and Chiron all in the sign of Aquarius holds the promise for creating a new renaissance, not only in spirituality, but also in the healing arts and entertainment. Since “The medium is the message”, as Marshall McLuhan stated back in the 60”s, we are about to witness a fantastic new marriage of artistic technology and cosmic consciousness….virtual reality meets channeling! Truth is about to get a lot stranger than “science” fiction!
PERSONALLY SPEAKING:
All conjunctions mark the ending of one cycle and an initiation into the next level. Anyone having personal planets in the sign of Aquarius, as well as those born with Chiron in Aquarius (1955-60), will especially feel the effects of this major conjunction.
The Jupiter/Neptune aspect, and where it falls in the birth chart, helps to define our particular “muse”, where we find inspiration, and what we desire to create in our lives while the tremendous changes of the Uranus-Saturn opposition (“breakthroughs” or “breakdowns”) swirl around us until August 2009.
In the meantime, Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius will bring many like-minded groups together. Indeed, the growth of mutual support networks may be critical in the tumultuous times ahead. But like anything else in astrology, we must be aware of the pitfalls. Jupiter/Neptune may lead to “blind” optimism, if we are not aware of our own shadow. Cult figures, “guru-itis”, ego-inflation, and messiah complexes run rampant if we choose to ignore the reality checks that the planet Saturn demands. Saturn is once again moving forward in the sign of Virgo emphasizing the need for re-structuring and re-analyzing our relationship to the Earth and our physical bodies.
We cannot escape our Shadow...eventually it will rise in cataclysmic ways unless we are committed enough to experience the fire of our own internal alchemy. The time for waiting for external “saviors” is over. We are each in charge of our own Ascension process this time around.
POLITICALLY SPEAKING:
Politically and socially, Jupiter and Neptune invite the collective to imagine what could be….to dream the impossible dream…. and to climb the highest mountain. Leaders who rise to prominence during this time tend to take on the collective projection of this idealism and optimism.
Our first President, George Washington had a Jupiter/Neptune trine in his birth chart; and as the Father of his country (Jupiter), he inspired his peers and constituents to forge ahead and create a new world based on “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt governed during the Depression and gave us a “New Deal”. His famous quote, “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself”, is quintessential Jupiter/Neptune philosophy. FDR had a Jupiter/Neptune conjunction in Taurus in his 8th house of business and joint finances. This aspect highlighted his ability to inspire faith in progressive reform during a time of huge collective financial crisis and despair. He was also interested in the occult, which is also symbolized by his 8th house, but that is another story.
Jupiter entered Aquarius in January 2009, just days prior to President Obama’s inauguration, symbolizing the change (Aquarius) we want to believe in (Jupiter/Neptune). Barack Obama also has a prominent Jupiter/Neptune aspect in his natal chart, which emphasizes his gift for inspirational rhetoric and seeing the “big picture”. Whether he can ever attain the ranks of George Washington and FDR won’t be ascertained for several years; however, the Secret Service seems to have assigned rather fitting code names for Barack and Michelle Obama: “Renegade” and “Renaissance”. Both very interesting archetypes to embody as the U.S. “royal” couple.
The SABIAN SYMBOL for the May 24th NEW MOON at 4 degrees Gemini: “Holly and mistletoe reawaken old memories of Christmas; a longing for the pre-intellectual state of consciousness” – asks us to focus on what feeds our hearts and souls.
