Hello Everyone,
July 2009 ASTROLOGICAL UPDATE
Capricorn Full Moon Lunar Eclipse July 7th, 2009:
There are six eclipses in 2009 (there are usually four in an average year) making this a particularly powerful lunar year.
The second lunar eclipse of 2009 falls at 15 degrees Capricorn on July 7 at 5:22am EDT. This eclipse pattern covers the major phase shift of the Moon’s Nodes moving into the signs of Capricorn/Cancer (earth & water), after 18 months of working their way through Aquarius/Leo (air & fire).
This eclipse is penumbral (which means it is a partial eclipse and not fully darkening the Moon's light). Although the Moon will be seen above the horizon from most of Canada, the eclipse will remain relatively invisible to the naked eye. The eclipse marginally affects Western Australia, Indonesia and Japan at moonrise. If it is visible at all, it will be over the Pacific Ocean and the Western US and Canada. Normally, eclipses that are not visible to the naked eye do not carry as much of an impact, so this eclipse will have the effects of a “normal” full moon.
The more precise the planetary alignment, the more concentrated is the electromagnetic channel and the clearer the pathways for transformation. During a lunar eclipse, solar radiation to the Moon is blocked by the Earth’s mass, creating a momentary energetic breach in time and space. Projections dissolve patterns morph, consciousness expands. Full Moons and especially eclipses expose the shadow sides of both signs involved. The shadow side of Cancer is emotional immaturity and self-indulgence. Until healed, our wounded child lives on sabotaging our happiness. The dark side of Cancer also manifests as martyrdom: sacrificing ourselves in hope that eventually our needs will be seen and met. Either way, emotional denial is at the core. Water must flow and feelings must be fully acknowledged (not necessarily acted out, but felt); otherwise stagnant emotional “ruts”, illnesses, or other negative situations may result. Repressed emotions overflow the banks of our defenses during a Full Moon. Water floods and destroys, but it also cleanses and heals. Harnessed, it generates tremendous power. Water receives, stores, and releases energy. It assumes the shape of is container. What are we pouring ourselves into right now? What do we need to receive? What do we need to release? What do we need to heal in our lives?
We live in a universe of cause and effect. Every action has a reaction. What we sow, we reap. The shadow side of Capricorn avoids taking responsibility and accepting consequences. It worships power and authority; it attempts to dominate and control, win at any cost. The dark side of Capricorn also manifests as projection of our power and authority (it’s not my fault, not my job, not my problem). Blame, shadow and guilt are all part of the Capricorn shadow.
Although both Cancer and Capricorn are yin signs (receptive, feminine), Capricorn has come to be associated with more masculine qualities. For the last 5,000 years in the West, yang (aggressive masculine) qualities have been valued over yin. Competition, domination, and conquest have been valued over inner development, cooperation and sharing. This lunar eclipse highlights the longstanding inequality between the masculine and feminine and the necessity of returning to the spiritual intentions of the 4th and 10th signs of the zodiac (the Mother/Father axis of your chart). The positive expression of Cancer is creation, nurturance, and the protection of life. The positive expression of Capricorn is integrity, discipline and dedication. Pluto’s passage through Capricorn keeps this polarity in the cosmic spotlight, revealing the long-hidden costs of inequity, corruption and materialism through 2024.
Other Aspects:
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on July 7th, 2009 occurs at 15°24' Capricorn, in conjunction with the Fixed Star, Vega, and a star of luck in politics, generosity and artistic talent. If your birthdate falls within 3 days of July 7th, you may be receiving some long awaited recognition or award after paying your cosmic dues and not giving up. (His Holiness, The Dalai Lama’s birthday is July 3rd, as is George W. Bush…eclipses definitely bring up the “shadow” aspects of each sign involved!)
This eclipse is further potentized by the on-going Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction. These three energies meet in Aquarius only once every few thousand years, heralding a new era of equality, collaboration, and humanitarian effort. The last Jupiter- Chiron conjunction which occurred on June 16, 1990 at 16 degrees of Cancer. What was important in your life then? How do you see those issues cycling around you again? Jupiter’s last conjunction with Neptune occurred on January 9, 1997 at 27 degrees Capricorn. On July 10th this year, Jupiter makes the second of three conjunctions with Neptune this year, this time at 26 degrees Aquarius. What were your dreams and visions twelve years ago? What are they now? Mars at 27 degrees Taurus makes a challenging aspect to the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction urging us to act on our ideals and invest in lasting reforms. Uranus, the ruling planet of Aquarius is intensified by its recent retrograde station on June 30th and is stimulating us to try something new and different.
Use the energy of this Full Moon in Capricorn to thank Spirit for what you have manifested in your life so far; to help you redefine your “mission statement” for the future; and to aid in releasing what no longer serves your higher purpose.
The SABIAN SYMBOLS for this eclipse advocate using spiritual tools and using teamwork to accomplish your goals.
For the Sun at 16 Degrees Cancer: “A man studying a mandala in front of him, with the help of a very ancient book.” For the Moon at 16 degrees Capricorn:” School grounds filled with boys and girls in gym suits.”
Total Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 22nd, 2009:
New Moons are THE optimal times to set new intentions. This year we have had two New Moons in Cancer, one in the first degree of the sign (June 22nd), and this one (July 22nd) in the last degree (a critical degree) of Cancer denoting a HUGE emphasis in awareness regarding the qualities of that sign. Cancer is the sign of the Great Mother, the feminine archetype par excellence…the primal water sign in charge of the birthing process (including labor pains), the nurturer of family, children, community and country… (Even Homeland Security). Since this New Moon is both a total eclipse and a “Super Moon” (see June New Moon article), it appears we have now reached a cosmic “climax” between the masculine and feminine archetypes on this planet. Whether it is a war for control of the earth’s resources, global power politics, or personal relationships, we are all here to learn the lessons of this particular cosmic learning curve .The only antidote to war and destruction of Life is Love and compassion for all sentinent beings. This is graduation time on Planet Earth!
The second solar eclipse of 2009 is a total eclipse of the Sun, at the New Moon in Cancer on July 22nd. The solar Eclipse on July 22, 2009 is a TOTAL eclipse and will be the longest in duration until 2134 (3.4 hours)!! This eclipse will be visible over a wide pathway that allows millions of people in Asia and the Pacific to see it. It will therefore be of considerable significance, as the more visible the eclipse, the more powerful its effects on us earthlings. The evolutionary imperative to change or be changed continues, as we are continuing to experience global and collective shifts in perception. The “winds of change” are indeed here…. But do we have the courage and the faith to believe that positive change is possible, as a collective species and as individual sovereign beings on this planet regardless of what Church, State and whomever try to “sell” you?? These are the questions that will come up over the next six months. As we enter deeper into the photon belt and closer to the Galactic Center of our Milky Way galaxy (scientific facts, not “New Age” conjecture), We are now officially “pushing the envelope” on what it means to be human!
According to elders of many ancient traditions….Mayan, Hopi, Egyptian, we are in the process of completing a 26,000 year cycle which involves a dimensional shift from the limited perception of duality to a collective awareness of unity and divinity. In order to progress from duality to oneness, it is necessary for us to become conscious of and integrate BOTH sides of all polarities…..masculine/feminine, dark/light…good/evil….superior/inferior….In duality, we tend to identify with one side of a polarity and project the other. In a more unified state of consciousness, we see through the illusion of opposites…no one is separate, better or worse. There are just different frequencies and variant geometries of light.
Eclipses also mark BIG shifts in collective and global consciousness, so July is a VERY significant period, particularly for India, Bhutan and Central China where the totality of the eclipse will be the most visible. The central path begins in India’s Gulf of Khambhat, an inlet of the Arabian Sea, (at 6:23 AM, local time). Interestingly, this is where in 2002 archaeologists discovered the site of a sunken city with artifacts carbon-dated to more than 9000 years ago, showing that civilization is MUCH older than previously thought. It is also the time period considered the height of matriarchal Mother/Goddess cultures around the globe….a very Cancerian synchronicity! More to come on the “rising” of these ancient records and the re-writing of the earth’s history.* (FOOTNOTE: Linda Moulton Howe, Earthfiles.com)
Path of the Total Solar eclipse:
Racing inland, the eclipse shadow sweeps over the India, travelling across Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Burma (Myanmar), then working its way across the rest of southern China... As the Moon's shadow reaches the coast, China's largest city, Shanghai, with over 19 million people, experiences a total eclipse lasting 5 minutes at 9:39 AM local time. Across the East China Sea, the umbra sweeps over Japan's Ryukyu Islands and Iwo Jima, but the greatest eclipse (6 minutes 39 seconds) occurs in the South Pacific at 02:35:19 UT. It then arcs southeast through the Pacific hitting small atolls in the Marshall Islands. The path of totality ends at 04:18 UT as the lunar shadow leaves Earth 3.4 hours after it started its trek across our planet's surface.
Afghanistan, Pakistan, North India, and East Asia contain many flashpoints, so let us pray that no big flare-ups occur. Solar Eclipses seem either to trigger or amplify natural events in the regions they affect… severe weather, earthquakes…political unrest.
Other Aspects:
This eclipse occurs at 29°27' of Cancer, the sign of the Crab, opposing Uranus, and the ancient sky god whose union with the Earth Mother produced life as we know it. Uranus is known for his erratic behavior, producing outcomes that are unorthodox or unexpected.
Within 12 hours of the eclipse, Jupiter at 25 degrees Aquarius makes its second of three conjunctions this year with Chiron; this further accents the potential to initiate major changes and resolve long-standing issues. (The first Jupiter- Chiron conjunction was on May 23rd at 26 degrees Aquarius; the third will occur on December 7 at 22 degrees Aquarius.
Like the January 09 Solar Eclipse, this one activates President Barack Obama's natal Jupiter ( good fortune and expansion) in Aquarius, but this eclipse is not so favorable, as it also makes a challenging aspect to his North Node of the Moon ( a destiny point). He also has Mars (action; passion; warfare) rising in his Washington chart, conjunct his natal Moon and in positive aspect to his natal Sun. He may be inclined to grandiose gestures that sound good in the short term, but create more trouble further down the line. The trine to his Sun however suggests that he will weather the storm and emerge unscathed, while other major players will not be so lucky.
Since the birth chart of the U.S. has a Cancerian Sun sign (born on the 4th of July), money, as well as domestic, home and family issues will be a big concern, as both the Sun and Moon in the last degree of Cancer will pull this into sharp focus. The U.S. housing “crisis”, as well as the banking and monetary system will be addressed one way or the other…there is no escaping this one.
Venus , the ultimate symbol of female Goddess energy, closely squares Saturn (exact at 18 degrees Gemini /Virgo, exact 6 hours prior to eclipse); extending the cosmic invitation to redefine our values and priorities regarding the “new” Feminine archetype (with a capital “F”). There will be more and more women moving to the front lines on behalf of political and social causes and reforms…women priests, political leaders, teachers and mothers will really move the “greening” of America forward ( green is the color of the Heart chakra, as well as the Earth).
Will the “right to life” take on new forms as women in Iran, Afghanistan , Iraq, Sudan and other Third World countries find their collective voices and demand their right to live in freedom, equality and sovereignty of their own sexuality? The days of the old tyrants wielding their power through rape and torture, witch hunts and Inquisition, Jihad and Intifada, fear control are numbered. This is the dawning of a new age…and we are the “bringers of the new dawn”.
We are being given a new “dispensation”, if you will….a cosmic “get out of jail free card”, if we know how to use it. The quest for the Holy Grail takes on an entirely new dimension, for as we look into the face of God/Goddess, we will recognize our own likeness.
Personally Speaking:
The eclipse being in Cancer means that people with Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) featured in their birth charts are more likely to be affected. Also, if your birthdate falls on or near one of the eclipse dates, you can expect major changes over the next 3- 6 months in the area where is falls in your chart (the houses).
On July 21, 1990, there was a solar eclipse at 29 degrees Cancer. What was important for you back then? What are your feelings and needs telling you now? Solar eclipses (especially in the LAST degree of one sign) herald an inevitable ending, as well as the potential for a new beginning. As one cycle closes, another begins. In other words, there is promise for a future alive with hope, as long as you have faith.
If the Universe is giving you signals to “Let go”; it is probably in your best interest to do so over the next 3 to 6 months. Whatever you try to hold onto (situations, relationships, possessions, feelings, habits,) will become more of a cosmic liability than an asset, if they are not part of your next cycle. This is not to say that you must lose everything you value or love; however, we are now being called on to make very mature decisions regarding our priorities, spiritually as well as materially. If your decisions are being made based on love and compassionate service, there is nothing of real value that can ever be lost or taken away. In the words of the Master Jesus, “Leave the dead to bury the dead.”
The Sabian Symbol for 30 Degrees Cancer:” A Daughter of the American Revolution”, represents the necessity to birth and nurture freedom for all.
